Karlovy Vary

One of Europe's most famous spa towns will win you over at first sight — with its stunning architecture, blossoming spa parks, original spa wafers and views that stay with you. Ride the Diana funicular up to the Deer Leap (Jelení skok), stop by the spectacular Hot Spring (Vřídlo), which shoots up to twelve metres high, and take a look at its underground passages — or warm up in the thermal water itself. Discover more of the town's gems at the Moser Glass Museum and the Jan Becher Museum.

Spa Hotel Schlosspark stands right in the heart of this spa metropolis, so everything is conveniently within reach. And because the Karlovy Vary region offers far more than treatments and colonnades, we've put together an overview of the best ways to fill your stay.

Active pursuits

Golf

Karlovy Vary and its surroundings are a popular and sought-after golf destination. A whole range of courses awaits you — the 18-hole courses include Golf Resort Karlovy Vary, Golf Resort Cihelny, Golf Club Sokolov, Royal Golf Club Mariánské Lázně and Golf Club Františkovy Lázně Hazlov, while the 9-hole courses include Golf & Racing Club Karlovy Vary, Golf Club Háje and Golf Club Luby. Lovers of the sport will certainly find what they're looking for.

Horse riding

Fancy a ride on horseback? We're happy to help with that too. Nearby, in the village of Děpoltovice, you'll find an equestrian centre with an indoor arena and outdoor riding grounds dedicated to riding and training. By arrangement, you can book lessons or set off on a ride through the surrounding countryside — the perfect way to swap the bustle of the town for peace and fresh air.

Cycling

Love cycling? Then the trails in the spa forests around Karlovy Vary are made for you. Thanks to the varied difficulty of the terrain, there's something for everyone. For the more experienced, we can recommend one of the cycle routes along the Ohře River to the nearby towns and villages — particularly worth mentioning is the route past the unique Svatošské skály rock formation to the historic town of Loket. You can also take a cycle bus up into the Ore Mountains, where most routes follow the Ore Mountains Ridgeway; more than 400 km of trails offer plenty of choice for recreational and professional cyclists alike. And after your sporting exertions, a well-earned rest at our Spa Hotel Schlosspark should follow.

Tennis and badminton

If tennis or badminton is your favourite sport — whether you're an advanced player or a beginner — we recommend the Gejzír Park complex in Karlovy Vary. The largest racquet-sports centre in the Karlovy Vary region sits in the pleasant valley of the Teplá stream and offers both outdoor courts and an indoor hall, so you can play all year round, whatever the weather.

Scenic flights

Would you like to take in the view of our beautiful town and its surroundings from a bird's-eye perspective — and you're not afraid of heights? Then a scenic flight is just the thing. Choose from standard routes to Loket, Cheb or Mariánské Lázně, or plan your own itinerary by arrangement. During the flight, an experienced pilot will point out the sights you shouldn't miss.

Skiing

Winter-sports lovers will welcome a visit to the Klínovec ski resort in the Ore Mountains, considerably modernised in recent years — we'll gladly arrange a transfer for you. Don't have your own equipment? No problem, you can hire everything on the spot. You'll find runs of all levels and difficulty for both downhill and cross-country skiing. Families with children are well catered for too: you can entrust your little ones to the experienced instructors of the ski kindergartens, who will happily look after less confident adults as well.

Culture, trips and shopping

Trips around the region

Within easy reach of Karlovy Vary you'll find many more beautiful towns and monuments worth visiting. The famous Loket Castle, Bečov nad Teplou Chateau — home to the priceless Reliquary of St Maurus — or the Premonstratensian monastery in Teplá with its magnificent library. You can also visit Kynžvart Chateau and Chýše Chateau with its own brewery, as well as the other towns of the spa triangle: Františkovy Lázně and Mariánské Lázně, famous for its singing fountain. Nor should you miss the world-famous Pilsen brewery, with tours and tastings. Among the more distant destinations are the capital city of Prague, Karlštejn Castle and the picturesque town of Český Krumlov.

We'll gladly arrange a trip, transfer or car hire for private travel throughout the Czech Republic.

Culture

During the spa season, Karlovy Vary comes alive with a varied programme of cultural and social events. Particularly worth mentioning are the Opening of the Spa Season, the Food Festival, the Karlovy Vary Carnival and the renowned International Film Festival, where every year you can encounter many leading Czech and international stars. This is followed by the Jazz Fest and, in autumn, the Caminos travel festival. Lovers of classical music should consider one of the many concerts by the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, while theatre enthusiasts will enjoy a performance at the historic Municipal Theatre.

Shopping and souvenirs

Shopping enthusiasts strolling through the spa zone will easily find something among the many well-known fashion and jewellery brands otherwise available only in major cities. Also worth your attention are the products of the world-famous Moser glassworks and the porcelain of the Thun and Benedikt brands — the oldest and largest producers of their kind in the Czech Republic. And as a sweet finishing touch or a gift to take home, don't forget the famous Karlovy Vary Becherovka liqueur and the traditional spa wafers.
